Part of what's interesting about her is she is and isn't 'the real thing'.
There is no easy 'real thing' in art. It's all such a house of mirrors and
wilfull illusions that the notion of 'the real thing' gets really put
through the wringer.
An acquaintance of mine wrote a piece several years ago where each line
started with "Because". One wasn't quite sure of the questions but the
answer, in one line, was "Because art attracts pretenders." And so it does.
Great pretenders and not so great pretenders.
