Please see below the latest exhibition at the South West Image Bank Plymouth opening 1st August.
Dave Clayton Photography and the Southwest Image Bank present:
Urban Desolation
A study of the derelict and disused former mental health hospitals of the UK
A new photographic installation covers four years of work documenting the closed mental health
hospitals around the UK. Shut during the mid to late 1990s as part of the care in the community
programme, now the hospitals now sit in splendid decay. Some have been converted to modern
apartments and others demolished with little trace of the original land use.
This study serves to document several hospitals and the psychogeographics of the building usage. The
collection addresses the notion that even now, the usage of these buildings as mental health hospitals still
resonates as a material stigma.
The exhibition is at the Southwest Image Bank's new gallery at 25 The Parade, Barbican,
Plymouth, PL1 2JN and opens on the 1st August for a month. For more info please get in
