Archives Awareness Campaign 2011, Culture and Diversity: What's your story?
Reporting the 20th Century's Story: The Guardian and Observer Archives
The Guardian News & Media Archive preserves and promotes the histories and values of the Guardian and the Observer newspapers by collecting and making accessible material that provides an accurate and comprehensive history of the papers.
As well as corporate records of the papers, records of staff and contributors and illustrative collections, the archive contains a wealth of photographic material dating from the early 1920s to the present day.
Guardian and Observer photographers have been present at some of the UK's most important cultural celebrations and flashpoints over the course of the 20th Century, and this diverse range of subjects and images are preserved within the archive collections.
On 22nd September at 4.30pm, as part of the Archives Awareness Campaign 2011, the archive will be hosting a talk and tour for members of the public to visit the Guardian's offices at Kings Place, London, and find out more about the history of both papers and the wide range of photographic and other material held in the collections.
Places are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment!
Also as part of the campaign, the archive will be showcasing a 'picture of the day' website during the month of September, featuring the work of several of the Guardian and Observer's best-known photographers.
