I would be grateful for any help/advice regarding locked volumes. We have a number of victorian diaries which have brass clasp locks for which we, sadly, have no keys.
In the past we have either managed to find random keys that fit certain volumes or have had to break into the volumes. Before we commit acts of hideous violence on these volumes does anyone have any ideas/experience of dealing with this problem. Is it acceptable, when all else fails, to break open the locks, causing irreversible damage? How easy is it to pick locks?!
Thanks for your thoughts,
Juliette Baxter
