Exciting new opening for a statistical geneticist/genetic epidemiologist - GlaxoSmithKline, R&D Stevenage, UK.
GSK's Genetics division is part of Quantitative Sciences (QSci), headed by Lon Cardon, and works on projects in all phases of GSK's pipeline, primarily focussing on identification of genetic variants that predict drug response or adverse drug reactions, and supporting new target identification and validation by innovative uses of genetic data.
The Statistical Genetics group is part of the QSci department for Statistical Platform Technologies, headed by John Whittaker, and consists of approximately 14 analysts located in the US and in the UK. The Statistical Genetics group is responsible for design, analysis and interpretation of genetic and pharmacogenetic experiments across the drug discovery and development portfolio. This group conducts innovative research and develops and implements novel methods to support genetic research in the drug development process. Statistical Genetics scientists work closely with colleagues within the Genetics division, as well as other analysts and scientists across Research & Development and with external academic institutions.
We are seeking a statistical geneticist to join the team in Stevenage, UK. The key responsibilities in this role will be to:
* Support the design, analysis, interpretation and reporting of pharmacogenetic and other studies
* Identify existing methods, or develop new methods and capabilities, that can improve study design, analysis, and/or interpretation of pharmacogenetic data. Evaluate, implement, test, validate, and make recommendations for internal use.
* Promote the adaptation of new methods and capabilities through implementation and training
* Publish in scientific literature
Essential Requirements:
Ability to contribute to multiple active projects and to deliver results to meet required timelines.
Strong applied statistical knowledge and proficiency with SAS, S-Plus or R. Good written and verbal communication skills and flexibility to deal with changing project priorities.
Preferred Requirements:
MSc or PhD in statistics, statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, or equivalent, together with 2 years experience in the analysis of genetic data.
