I take Little Luke, my 3.5 year old grandson
into an art Gallery. Someone has made an
elegant lettered depiction of the Vowels.
Each black letter is back grounded by a fierce red.
Little Luke and the Gallery owner have just finished
an intense discussion about the characters & judo like moves
in Mortal Combat, a video game I have never played.
I don't even play video games.
"A-E-I-O-U plus sometimes Y" I point at the letters and chant.
"Can you say that, Luke?"
"No." He points at the red paint. "Mortal Combat, Mortal Combat."
"Come on Luke. Repeat after me!"
"No. Mortal Combat. Mortal Combat. End of Story. End of Story."
Ah, well, the defeated grandfather, he is, I am, indeed
