Dear colleague,
Could you please bring the following PhD position to the attention of interested candidates?
Thank you!
Bas van de Meerakker
Applicants are invited for a PhD position in the group of Dr Bas van de Meerakker, Institute for Molecules and Materials, Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
The project is entitled “Cold and Controlled Collisions; a microscope for molecular interactions”.
The general aim of the project is to study collisions between atoms and molecules at low temperatures and with unprecedented precision. We will use the Stark deceleration technique to obtain full control over the velocity and quantum state of the molecules prior to the collision, and state-of-the-art laser detection techniques to probe the collision products. The project will focus particularly on the experimental observation of quantum interference effects and scattering resonances. This project will be performed in a close collaboration with prof. David Parker’s group in Nijmegen, and is embedded within the Marie Curie Initial Training Network ICONIC (see for more information http://www.ru.nl/iconic/).
The Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM) at the Radboud University Nijmegen is an interdisciplinary Graduate Research School within the Faculty of Science. IMM is comprised of 20 research groups active in areas ranging from condensed matter nanoscience to (bio)chemical synthesis and with unique experimental facilities such as the Nijmegen High Field Magnet Laboratory. There is a THz Free Electron Laser under construction and the Rijnhuizen Free Electron infrared Laser facility FELIX/FELICE will be relocated at IMM in 2012.
We are looking for an enthusiastic strong candidate with interest in the field of physics or physical chemistry. You have obtained a Master degree in chemistry, physics, or a related discipline, and proven laboratory skills. Good knowledge of English, both written and oral, is compulsory. When filling a PhD position at the Radboud University Nijmegen, you will receive a contract for 18 months, which is extended by 2.5 years after a positive evaluation. The gross starting salary is EUR 2042 a month, and will increase to EUR 2612 a month in the fourth year.
Interested applicants should send a detailed CV to:
