Academic Institutional Profiles. This database, updated annually, is
provided by the National Science Foundation. It includes data for each
institution from three of its surveys: Survey of Research and Development
Expenditures, Survey of Graduate Students and Postdoctorates in Science
and Engineering and Survey of Federal Science and Engineering Support.
America's Literacy Directory. A database of literacy programs for those
interested in participating as clients, volunteers, sponsors, etc.
Searches can be refined to look at ESL, GED and other special programs.
Annual Reports (National Center for Education Statistics). This site
offers links to several compendia of statistics. Some of the titles are
also available in printed form in the Documents collection: Digest of
Education Statistics (ED 1.326: ), Projection of Education Statistics (ED
1.102: ), Condition of Education (ED 1.109: ) and Youth Indicators (ED
1.327: ).
College Navigator. A database of approximately 7,000 higher education
institutions, with information arranged to allow comparison searches based
on a wide variety of criteria, from programs offered to distance from a
prospective student's home.
CRS Reports. These research reports by the staff of the Congressional
Research Service cover all subject areas and are excellent overviews.
Unfortunately there is not an official government site which offers access
to the entire collection. But there are several different institutions and
individuals who are working to make these valuable resources available:
The largest of these online collections is at the University of North
Texas Libraries; their archive is searchable and contains as many
different reports, and variations of reports, as they have been able to
collect.
The Open CRS project of the Center for Democracy and Technology is another
repository of a large number of CRS reports.
The Thurgood Marshall Library of the University of Maryland Law School has
developed a specialized archive of reports in the areas of Homeland
Security/Terrorism and Health Law and Policy.
Stephen Young, librarian at Catholic University Law Library, has put
together an annotated listing for LLRX.com of many of these different
online collections.
Digital Divide Web Resources. Links to model programs, sources of grant
funds, and other resources dealing with use of the internet and computers
in education.
