The School of Geographical Sciences announces the availability of two ‘PhD teaching assistantship’ posts to start in October 2011 for 4 years of funding. The two successful candidates will follow a 4 year research based PhD programme of their choice with appropriate supervisor support but will be contracted to deliver specific teaching duties in terms of undergraduate demonstrating and the provision of formal tutorial sessions. The contracted teaching commitment will pay an additional £2000 in addition to the stipend. These posts require ambitious PhD students, one from physical and one from human geography disciplines, who are enthused by the additional teaching commitments and the associated skills training this provides for future career development. They need to be highly motivated and well organised. The studentships come with a Research Councils equivalent stipend, with an additional budget for funding research activities and the waving of University registration fees for home / EU students over the lifetime of the appointments.
The deadline for these appointments is 31st July, 2011. Before applications are submitted students are expected to develop their own PhD research project outline as part of their application pack having discussed supervision arrangements with an appropriate School of Geographical Sciences staff member.
