Hi Tracey,

Having sent a few to the list and elsewhere, here are my top tips :)

To: send to [log in to unmask] as usual
Subject: The subject line should include the where as well as the what. For my own mail filtering I always use [Job] but no-one else does so write it as you please - something like Vacancy: Wellcome Trust "job title" is sufficient but it doesn't hurt to add in basic salary details and when closing.

Text: The body text doesn't need to be anything more complicated than a copy / paste of the text on the website, make sure you include the web link (especially if there's a job description as it can't be attached on psci-com, also especially if people need to apply online), highlight the salary and closing date again, who to contact to apply and / or who to contact for an informal chat about the job. Invite people to pass on to interested parties and get them to do some of the work for you.

As a bonus it's quite helpful if people include both words 'job' and 'vacancy' as if someone's searching the archives at jiscmail using either of the words then the post will come up.

Hope that helps,
Jo

I would like to post a vacancy we have at the Trust on psci but am afraid that although I posted one last October I cannot remember how I did it. Can you please advise?

Your help is appreciated.

Subject: Events Officer (fixed term) vacancy

Events Officer - Public Programmes (Secondment Cover)
Salary on a scale from £25 220 p.a. plus excellent benefits

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation dedicated to achieving extraordinary improvements in human and animal health. We support the brightest minds in biomedical research and the medical humanities.

A free destination for the incurably curious, Wellcome Collection provides a public face for the Trust, through an innovative programme of intelligent and experimental exhibitions and events about the science and culture of medicine. We have an exciting opportunity for a temporary Events Officer.

As Events Officer you will assist the Events Manager in developing and running the public events programme. This will include taking responsibility for researching and managing specific activities and ensuring the smooth running of events, producing audience development plans and liaising closely with a wide range of internal and external contacts. You will need to demonstrate:

* previous experience of running public events in the arts, museums or galleries sector and/or within a science communication/public engagement environment
* a relevant degree or equivalent training
* familiarity with contemporary medicine and science, especially topics of ethical and public concern
* excellent communication skills, first-class organisational ability and an ability to rapidly develop good organisational awareness
* the energy and enthusiasm to assist in the creation of a range of lively and well-attended science-related events.

This role is offered on a contract to cover a secondment, which we expect to run until the beginning of November 2011. Due to the nature of the work, a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check will be required.

For more details and to apply, visit www.wellcome.ac.uk<http://www.wellcome.ac.uk>
Alternatively, you may send a full CV and covering letter to: HR, Wellcome Trust, 215 Euston Road, London NW1 2BE or to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>

Application deadline: 10 November 2010
Interview date: 24 November 2010
