De-friending
A week since her funeral
he comes our way
for chat and consolation.
We need consolation too,
we'd expected a long friendship,
he a long marriage.
'Oh, much still to be done,
the tidying away,
the superannuation.
Phoned the telecom
about her contract.
They said they could only
deal with the signatory.
A friend mentioned
her voice is still there
on our voicemail message.
I knew, of course.
I'd been phoning just
to hear her voice.
Her face already is less
distinct, not so
her lovely voice.'
We know it still - still.
And he'd been back
to the oncology ward
to say thanks nevertheless.
Taking them her sweet
collection of scarves
and headbands, knowing
they'd have a use for them.
Another friend had said
she's still on Facebook.
At length he 'went there'
and 'deactivated' her.
'I know she's still there,
however, but hidden.
I'm thinking how her links
are being withdrawn
from all her Friends.
As if she's quietly
de-friended them.
She hasn't. Not she.'
