Hi Max I read as this as finishing at 'and go their ways' which seemed to
work better (dare I say ??)

Exercise
After the effort of getting there,
good to walk down the winding path
into the embracing park
away from the traffic on wheels
to the world of legs, immobile
trees under a big sky,
the foraging of birds, late berries
reddened, last week¹s mushrooms
slumped in decay.
A kookaburra¹s calling
like some wrecked
distracting voice-overs.
The park snakes have downed
a late autumn frog or two and
tucked themselves in for the winter.
Good morning, good morning.
All you other walkers
are welcome to share,
pausing while our dogs
size each other up
touch noses
and go their ways,
play, even, taking exercise
on their owners¹ behalf.
A quiet curse
on those
frowning power-walkers
who circle the lake
without
ever looking about.
The return home is uphill
(upping the heart-rate
worsening joint-ache)
depleting the replenishment
one went there for.
I know a man who¹s bought
a treadmill for himself
and his German Shepherd
an all-weather roofed
indoor-park, safe from
birds, trees, lesser bristling
dogs, unreliable others.
All¹s cardiovascular for him,
measurable on a graph,
blood pressure monitored.
And he can watch a screen
while he exercises, scrolling
through a world of information.
