Dear Colleagues,
We would like to draw your attention to the AGU session detailed below, which will feature invited presentations by Andy Gleadow, Peter Zeitler and Mark Harrison.
V03: 25 Years of Thermochronology
Sponsor: Volcanology, Geochemistry, and Petrology (V)
Co-Sponsor(s): Earth and Planetary Surface Processes (EP), Tectonophysics (T)
Description:
In a series of landmark papers published between 1986 and 1989, Paul Green, Peter Zeitler, Mark Harrison and others developed the fission track, U-Th-He and 40Ar/39Ar methods into sensitive thermochronometers essential for the study of tectonics and surface geodynamics. Much progress has taken place in the intervening quarter century and recent technical advances suggest that we may be on the verge of another revolution in methodology and application stemming from the study of increasingly smaller samples, the application of multiple methods on the same sample, and the addition of optical dating techniques. This session seeks methodological and applied contributions to celebrate the diversity and continued development of thermochronometry in the 21st century.
