Dear public engagement colleagues,
We invite you to share your knowledge, wisdom and experience! Submit a
proposal for a session or poster presentation at Community-Campus
Partnerships for Health's 15th anniversary conference, April 18-21, 2012 in
Houston, TX USA! The conference theme is "Community-Campus Partnerships as
a Strategy for Social Justice: Where We've Been & Where We Need to Go."
Whether you are directly involved in community-based participatory research,
service-learning or other community-academic partnerships - or are working to
ensure the conditions are in place for such partnerships to thrive and have
impact - the conference is designed to challenge and inspire you! Regardless
of the social justice issue you are passionate about - health equity, education,
environmental justice, food security, sustainability, indigenous rights and so
forth - together we will explore how to leverage partnerships to create change.
The call for proposals is attached and is also available on our homepage at
http://www.ccph.info
Session and poster proposals are due September 26, 2011.
CCPH conferences consistently get rave reviews for time and money well spent
for a number of reasons:
*The CCPH conference draws diverse participants who share a commitment to
social justice and a passion for the power of partnerships to transform
communities and academe. Whether a grassroots community activist, a student,
a Dean, a faculty member, a community based organization executive director,
a government agency staff member or a foundation program officer, all CCPH
conference participants are embraced for the knowledge, wisdom and
experience they bring to the table.
*The CCPH conference features inspiring keynote presentations,
skill-building workshops, discussions by peer group and interest area,
educational exhibits, community site visits, local arts programming and many
opportunities for informal networking. We emphasize sessions that go beyond
describing a particular partnership, project or issue to analyzing what
worked, didn't work and why, and offering practical ways to apply the
information back home.
*The benefits of attending the CCPH conference continue well beyond the
conference. As noted by CCPH member Peter Levesque of Knowledge Mobilization
Works in Ottawa, "CCPH puts on a great conference...informative, well-run,
well-attended, and a great resource for continued contacts and resources!"
*The CCPH conference is always located in a city with ready access to
exemplary community-campus partnerships that participants can see and learn
from. Houston is an ideal location, with its many community-campus
partnerships, tourist attractions, and warm and sunny spring climate! The
4th largest city in the U.S. is increasingly being recognized and valued as
a multi-cultural destination for food, culture and green space. Houston is
also home to our major conference partner, St. Luke's Episcopal Health
Charities, the area's largest charity focused solely on health and
well-being and also celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2012.
Concerned about the cost of attending? We are committed to keeping
conference costs to a minimum and raising funds to support the full
participation of community members, students and individuals from countries
with emerging and developing economies. Details will be posted on the CCPH
homepage at www.ccph.info as they become available.
We look forward to reviewing your proposal and seeing you at the CCPH
conference in Houston next April!
Sincerely,
The CCPH Conference Planning Team: Piper McGinley, Shannon Smith, Faye
Ziegeweid & Shelly Tolo
