Social media: re-conceptualising information literacy?
9 June 2011 - Professor Helen Partridge
Social media has rapidly transformed the way we live, work and play. It is also changing the way people find, use and experience information. The interactivity of applications such as Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook has helped people to become not just information consumers but information producers, creators and co--‐creators. Social media is creating entirely new types of information resources and new approaches to information practices as well as new user expectations.
More and more people are living in a state of constant awareness of the information that is around them. This session will consider whether social media is requiring a re‐conceptualisation to information literacy. The session will consider the many issues, challenges and opportunities social media brings to the world of information. But be warned, this session is likely to raise more questions than answers.
