Subject: [lis-e-resources] Institute of Hospitality and...Re: [lis-e-resources] Ebsco EJS
Hi Andy,
Don't worry about your email...we've ALL been there as far as stray
emails and questions about vendor costs, so doubt if any of your peers
will be passing judgment - and your follow-up email was a good laugh as
was Helga's!
Which brings me to EBSCO, because I too am considering (and I would
like this email to be confidential) getting rid of our current Gale
Cengage ejournals database and replacing them with EBSCO. The reason:
EBSCO bought OCLC's Netlibrary ebooks last year and we have been
purchasing ebooks for our small collection solely from Netlibrary since
2005. Now that they are EBSCOs ebooks, we have the opportunity to mix
our ebook collection with a new ejournal collection from EBSCO. An
aggregated search across ebooks AND ejournals is just what our members
need. They are always confused by the Gale ejournals database being
separate from our online library catalogue.
I am curious about costs and noticed £1000 mentioned by someone
purchasing 40 ejournals. That sounds pretty good to me...I currently pay
a LOT more for 60 ejournals from Gale. Can we talk about pricing at all
and the EBSCO product? As a solo librarian I can hardly ever get input
from colleagues on this delicate matter!
If you send me an email, I will call you at the number provided. Hope
to hear from you soon.
Regards,
Janine

As you may be aware, my reply to Helga (although I said Olga - mixing
her name up with one of our regular nursing staff users!) was assumed to
be direct to Helga and not to the list. Not that I can recall my
personal comments from the list- but please ignore them...
Apologies to anyone who feels my comments unfair - but they were to be
taken in context of catching up with a fellow colleague and as I say not
assumed to be shared on the list.
Mind you I didn't swear and I don't think I let the cat out the bag by
asking colleagues for pricing - you suppliers must be aware that we will
talk to each other about all aspects of the resources we get. We seldom
have the full picture when negotiating to suppliers so any information
we can garner is useful to us.
Helga has forgiven me for calling her Olga ... I think...

Andy Richardson
