If it is of interest we made a deliberate choice when setting up Write4Children to make it Open Access on the basis that it meant it was available to all without being prohibitively expensive. Being online also opens up all sorts of avenues - using colour illustrations etc - see our latest edition which is coming out shortly.

I am also in favour of including the journal subscription in membership; however, I would second Helene's suggestion that we consider moving to an Open Access model. I think that OA publishing has a lot to offer the academic community, and it would be great to see IRSCL follow this path.

I am in support too, particularly as I have been known to forget to pay one or the other. It would make life so much less complicated.

Dear All
I support the view of Emer, Kim, Helene and others: an inclusive
subscription, with special rates, for instance for students.

Dear all,
I, too, would tend to favour including the subscription in the
membership (the German yearbook of children's literature studies
couldn't be produced if that model wasn't in place here), but agree
with
Kim's point about special rates for members who may not be able to
afford the full subscription.
All the best,
Emer

to which I and other colleagues belong. But there is the issue of
expense for members from some countries and students. In the fulness of
time journals often make considerable revenue for societies - enough to
allow some subventions for special categories of membership - but
initially perhaps there can be a special rate for members on reduced
incomes that might not include the journal? We already have a hardship
system in place that could, possibly, be extended to cover this?

firms, libraries, and scholars, I also find this a possible solution.
However, adding this cost to the general member's fee could be
problematic since it would probably lead to a diminishing membership.
Would PhD. students for instance be able to afford to subscribing.
Would members be willing to add this cost to their subscription?

hosted by IRSCL. I suggest that before the general meeting the IRSCL
board should try to find out as musch as they can about the advantages
of different digital digtital models of scholarship. This is necessary
before the general memebership can make up its mind. For instance the
benefits of so-called green versus golden Open Access will need to be
considered.
