Apologies for cross-postings

Call for Papers

LSDS-IR 2011

http://www.lsdsir.org

The 9th International Workshop on

Large-Scale and Distributed Systems for Information Retrieval

Co-located with ACM CIKM'11 (October 28, 2011)

Glasgow, United Kingdom

Aims & Topics of Interest:

The growth of the Web and user bases lead to important performance problems for large-scale distributed information retrieval (IR) systems. Scalability and efficiency of these systems also have an impact on their effectiveness. As the premium venue on the topic, the LSDS-IR'11 workshop expects high-quality research contributions that aim to create scalable and efficient large scale IR systems. The workshop also welcomes contributions that propose different ways of leveraging diversity and multiplicity of resources available in distributed systems. Topics of interest include, yet is not limited to:

- applications of cloud computing to IR

- IR algorithms on novel computing architectures (GPUs, etc.)

- distributed crawling, indexing, and query processing

- large-scale multimedia IR

- heterogeneous resources and data integration
- P2P approaches in distributed and personalized IR

- search engine caching and replication in large scale systems

- standards and benchmarks for large scale and distributed IR

This year we would like to add three new topics to our workshop, for which we would be pleased to accept position papers, presentations of preliminary results, or breakthrough ideas. We introduce the following special themes:

- large-scale data processing in social networks

- real-time indexing and retrieval

- energy-aware processing techniques for search engines

A special award will be given to the best paper. As for past editions of the workshop, the workshop chairs will consider the opportunity to organize a special issue in an international journal with extended versions of best papers.

Important dates:

Paper submission deadline: July 8, 2011 (extended deadline)

Notification of acceptance: July 29, 2011

Camera-ready deadline: August 12, 2011

Workshop: October 28, 2011

Submission Instructions:

Papers should not exceed six double-column pages, including figures, tables and references in the standard ACM conference format (http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates). Papers must present original research contributions not concurrently submitted elsewhere, and must be submitted electronically in printable PDF format. Papers addressing a special theme should explicitly mention it in the subtitle. Submitted papers will undergo a peer review process by at least three members of the program committee. The review process is single-blind. At least one author of an accepted paper must register for the workshop.

Papers must be submitted at the following site:

https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/LSDSIR2011

Accepted workshop papers will be published in the CIKM workshop proceedings, which will be printed on CD only and indexed in the ACM digital library, together with the main CIKM 2011 proceedings.
