The recommendation for those enabling clients is to do so using the method they would use long-term, and to leave it up, rather than to 'hack' something into place for the day. This would also typically be deployed in advance of the 8th too. So for example in our context making your eduroam Tier3, or lighting up a vlan/subnet in your computer science department. I don't know if any sites have planned or done this though.
