VI. International Conference of Critical Geography “Crises – Causes,
Dimensions, Reactions” Frankfurt am Main, Germany
From 16th until 20th August, the Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main
(Germany) will host the 6th International Conference of Critical
Geography (ICCG). The ICCG takes place every two to three years, each
time on a different continent. Previous conferences have been held in
Vancouver (1997), Taegu (2000), Békéscsaba (2002), Mexico City (2005)
and Mumbai (2007). The conferences are organized by the International
Group of Critical Geography (ICGC), a network of critical geographers
established in the mid 1990s. "Critical Geography" is understood as
geographical research and teaching that focuses above all on analyzing
and questioning spatially organized power relations and social inequality.
Around 400 participants from more than 30 countries are expected to take
part in the Frankfurt conference under the theme of “Crises – Causes,
Dimensions, Reactions”. Organized around ten key themes, about 300
presentations will be given on diverse aspects of crisis-related
developments. Debate will cover a wide range of issues from spatial
economic processes, through ecological problems to the current
restructuring of universities. In addition to the main program,
excursions to the Rhein Main region and Berlin are also offered.
