Hello,

Below is an advert I'm forwarding on from Birmingham.

Wayne

Fifteen Early Stage Researcher (ESR) positions and two Experienced Researcher
(ER) positions are offered in the FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network
(ITN) METAFLUX – Metabolic Flux Analysis and Cancer. Some of these posts have
not yet been filled and we are interviewing further candidates.

METAFLUX is built on the hypothesis that cancer causes significant and
mechanistically important changes to metabolic flux and that these can be
used as diagnostic tools, to understand cellular pathways and their response
to drug intervention, in vitro and in vivo. The specific objectives address
this question by implementing and developing state-of-the-art technologies to
measure and model metabolic flux in the context of cancer . Technologies
include various analytical methodologies for in vivo and in vitro Metabolic
Flux Analysis (MFA), NMR methods, with a strong focus on DNP-NMR, which
radically increases the sensitivity of NMR experiments allowing in situ and
in vivo measurements, PET (positron emission tomography), and mass
spectrometry. Three groups will contribute in computational metabolic
modeling and model-driven data analysis.
Remaining openings are in DNP, metabolic flux analysis and in computational
flux analysis.

METAFLUX provides interdisciplinary experience in a consortium of 9 partners
that ranges from in vivo via in vitro analyses to computational systems
biology. METAFLUX also provides intersectoral experience by including several
corporate partners. The training programme includes state-of-the-art training
activities and network-wide courses, and larger workshops. The fellows will
benefit from high quality research and training, including secondments in
partner laboratories.

We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals, to engage in
the spirit of a dynamic interdisciplinary network.

The METAFLUX Partners are:
- The University of Birmingham, UK, Prof Ulrich Günther, 2 ESRs (NMR&DNP flux
analysis)
- The University of Cambridge, UK, Prof Kevin Brindle, 2 ERSs (DNP-MRI/PET
flux analysis)
- The Weizmann Institute, IL, Prof Lucio Frydman, 2 ESRs (DNP methods)
- The Universitat of Barcelona, SP, Prof Marta Cascante, 2 ESRs (Mass spec
and – computational flux modelling)
- The Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, SW, Prof Rolf Gruetter, 2
ESRs (DNP-MRI/PET flux analysis)
- The Biological Research Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, HU, Dr
Balázs Papp, 2 ESRs (Computational flux modelling)
- Tel Aviv University, IL, Prof Eytan Ruppin (Computational flux modelling)
- Oxford Instruments, UK, Dr A Sowerby, 1 ESR (DNP development, PhD in
Birmingham)
- BIOCRATES, AU, Dr Klaus Weinberger 2 ERs (Mass spec flux analysis)

Benefits
Candidates are paid according to MarieCurie standards, providing a generous
employment contract along with further support for travel, research, training
and career development. Fellowships for Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) are
fundable for up to three-year periods and up to two years for Experienced
Researchers (ERs). Please refer to the MarieCurie Web page for eligibility
and remuneration details.

Requirements
Outstanding ESR and ER candidates must fulfil the MaireCurie eligibility
criteria. For ESRs this requires a degree suitable for entry into a PhD
programme. Please visit the MarieCurie Web site for details:

For citizens from non-EU countries specific immigration formalities and rules
are in place.
Equal consideration will be given to female and male applicants.

Required Language
Fluency in oral and written English is required

How to apply
Candidates should apply to individual ads by the Partner institutions or send
their CV to Ulrich Günther at [log in to unmask] Please include a copy
of your University degree and a list of courses taken, along with a cover
letter outlining your specific qualifications, including contact information
for at least two references and indicate your preferred post and willingness
to be considered for other posts in the consortium. Applications will be
passed on to Partners.
