Dear all,
We would like to draw your attention to July's statistics courses that are
organised and run by the Statistics Courses Team at the UCL Institute of
Child Health, Dr Angie Wade and Miss Eirini Koutoumanou.
Introduction to Bayesian analysis
6 July 2011; 10am to 4.30pm; Cost for non UCL affiliated delegates £100
This course will provide participants with information on the basic concepts
of Bayesian statistics. By the end of the course participants shall expect
to have gained a good understanding of how Bayesian analysis is different to
ordinary (frequentist) statistical analysis and the ways it is applied, i.e.
parameter estimation, prediction, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals.
A short introduction to the freely-available software WinBugs will be
presented by the course leader (participants are not required to bring their
own laptops).
Analysing 2x2 tables
13 July 2011; 10am to 4.30pm; Cost for non UCL affiliated delegates £100
If you would like to find out the answers to the following questions as well
as more relating to the use and ways of analysing 2 by 2 tables, make sure
to register for this course.
- Do you want to know the difference between an odds ratio and a relative
risk?
- Are you doing too many chi-square tests and unsure what the results mean?
- Interested in finding out how to identify a good diagnostic test?
Critical appraisal
20 July 2011; 10am to 4.30pm; Cost for non UCL affiliated delegates £100
This course will provide delegates with all the relevant information
required to successfully and critically appraise published papers. Essential
terms and theories surrounding study design and statistical analysis
described on published research will be covered and the most commonly used
checklists as well as others will be discussed and put in practice via
discussion on 3 recently published papers.
If you are interested in registering for any of the above courses or others
