We are seeking a Bioinformatician to join their team in Leicestershire (United Kingdom). As a Bioinformatician, you will provide expertise, advice and translation of next generation sequencing and other areas of bioinformatics into tangible results, ensuring the delivery of high quality scientific output.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
* 60% Work with the company and external molecular biologists, developing the necessary tools to meet the challenges arising from the analysis of next generation sequence data.
* 25% Translate results into actionable information and provide training on the use of specific techniques for personnel as appropriate.
* 5% Attend appropriate conferences, symposia and/or training courses to integrate new knowledge and techniques in the area of bioinformatics, ensuring we remain at the forefront of knowledge in this area.
* Co-ordinate the use of external bioinformatic consultants to advise on cutting-edge techniques and provide support at times of high demand.
* Investigate and determine appropriate bioinformatic packages for both general use and state of the art analysis.
* Directly accountable for ensuring that all next generation sequencing is run with optimal efficiency to provide the highest scientific quality.
REQUIREMENTS:
* A minimum of a biological science degree with extensive relevant experience is essential, especially within the area 16s bacterial RNA, DNA and Genetics
* Desirable - Postgraduate qualification in bioinformatics including relevant research experience, with a life science background
* Experience in the taxonomic analysis of next generation sequence data is essential, as is the coding experience that enables the manipulation of these large datasets (e.g. Python, Java, Linux, Perl, R).
* Experience of transcriptomic / expression analysis and statistical analysis of large datasets is also desirable. An understanding of the installation and management of computer networks would be beneficial, as would skills in using and managing databases.
