Reporting to the VP Pharmatherapeutics Global Statistics Head, you will lead a team of statistical colleagues at the Cambridge UK site to provide innovative, high quality statistical input and critical review of preclinical programs, early clinical development plans, study designs, analysis and reporting from target selection through to Proof-of-Concept in human.

In this role, you will:
- Lead a team to provide high quality statistical input and critical review of preclinical research plans, early clinical development plans, study designs, analysis and reporting from target selection through to positive PoC.
- Lead the development of innovative approaches to achieve fastest, cheapest and highest quality drug discovery and development from LD to PoC through state-of-the-art quantitative methods, including Bayesian approaches.
- Recruit, train, develop, mentor, motivate and retain highly skilled statisticians to provide effective and qualified resources to support Research objectives and projects.
- Ensure that the statisticians work effectively with laboratory scientists, Clinical Pharmacologists, Clinicians and others within the project teams to provide high-quality statistical input to design and interpretation of programs and studies.
- Lead statistical colleagues to ensure industry-leading statistical best practices, and excellence in consultation, are applied uniformly for all projects.
What you will need:
- An MSc and preferably a PhD in Statistics.
- Experience in early clinical trials Phases I & II
- Scientific and business knowledge providing an understanding of the objectives and processes associated with drug discovery, pre-clinical development, and early clinical development.
- Leadership skills including the ability to lead through change, influence, develop strategy and manage colleagues.
- Capability to provide statistical leadership to cross-functional teams
- Strong statistical skills with application in at least two of the following areas: target discovery/validation, lead compound development, translational research (including imaging and biomarker development/validation), molecular medicine, clinical enabler studies, and early clinical drug development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in relating to colleagues and associates both inside and outside the organization.
- An innovative approach to design, analysis and communication of studies with a sound understanding of how Bayesian methods add value
- A collaborative style working closely with clinical research colleagues and actively influencing the R&D plans of projects.
- Broad understanding of the issues driving change in Pharma R&D, with views on how Statistics can help.
