Post Doc epidemiologist/mathematical modeller
This is an exciting opportunity for a veterinary epidemiologist to join a vibrant research group based in the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh. The project is a 5 year project funded by RESAS and is the follow-up to the EPIC programme. The project is a collaboration between the Roslin Institute and Institute of Evolutionary Biology (University of Edinburgh), Scottish Agricultural College, University of Glasgow, The Moredun Institute, Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland (BioSS) and The Macaulay Land Use Research Institute.
The Scottish Government supports the Epidemiology, Populations, Infection and Control consortium (EPIC) to inform the development of policy for the management of animal disease outbreaks. In recent years EPIC has contributed to policy development for both foot-and-mouth disease and bluetongue and the consortium has recently been awarded further funding to provide advice on future disease outbreaks - the risks, management options and expected impacts.
The successful applicant will have a good undergraduate degree (2.1 or 1st) and formal epidemiological/quantitative training to at least MSc level. They must work well within a team and have good communication skills but be able to drive their own research within the remit of the project. Experience of the Scottish and European livestock industry, or a veterinary degree would be an advantage.
