We have a mobile x ray that has a screen. This means you can see the image before it is loaded onto the system. This is really useful for colle's fractures under biers.

The originals plans/provisions were for an x-ray gantry in resus but our radiography service manager would rather have a digital mobile machine. The radiology argument is that a mobile machine would be easier to use and offer a greater scope of x-rays that could be done as portables. I'm not a radiographer so I find it hard to find a reason to prefer the gantry option beyond the aesthetic appearance of the machine.

Hi Jason
Congrats on KGH similar topography and geography as Donegal, best
wishes, have read rest of thread and my tuppence worth (having been
locked in interminable HSE upgrade since 2002 now at EUR22m) is that you
review entire radiology requirement for your Dept and consider the
options f.e, locally we were able to afford DR room, DR portable and US
within same cost envelope which initially only included DR room and CR
gantry, definitely more bang for buck, gantry use limited by power
distance and competition for ceiling space with pedestals hoists rails
etc plus now only image chest pelvis in trauma primary survey since scan
Head Neck as unit on adjacent CT.
BTW You may be able to get a gantry mothballed from RGH after July 11
(sorry for black humour).
If you are in NW please come visit our new palatial and empty state of
art ED (Aer Arann)
Beware the "curse of the new ED"
