I feel this is probably more suited for a Friday afternoon post, but I'll fire away anyway ...
I was just wondering what methods people have, and what tools might exist, for aggregating user-generated content when it is dispersed over many channels.
I'm thinking initially here about objects from online collections, or perhaps photographs shared through places like Flickr.
For example if a collections catalogue page or a Flickr photograph is online, it is then tweeted, shared on Facebook, retweeted, posted on a blog, tumblr, etc - in each location it has the potential for people to add comment, and potentially valuable information, but they all exist in isolation and are likely to be very hard to track down. But assuming all that information is public (ok, at least most of it should be) then my thought is that through the original url, or the urls that various shortening services have subsequently given it, there are unique identifiers that some sort of tool would be able to look for, discover the added content, and then aggregate it.
I have a feeling at the back of my mind that something similar may already exist, and if it does then brilliant - please point me to it!
Thanks, James
