Hi Stephanie,
Same goes for us at Edinburgh University. We do have grace periods, of 5
days for a standard loan, and 1 day for a short (1 week) loan, where no fine
is charged, so our users do get a bit of a chance if they act quickly after
an overdue notice. However, items returned after the grace period, charge
the whole fine from day 1.
The courtesies are as Wendy says - just a courtesy.
Best wishes
Pam

Hi Stephanie
We politely point out that a courtesy reminder is just that, a courtesy, and
that the onus is still on the borrower to return or renew the item by the
due date.
Cheers

Hi,
We have a system which sends courtesy reminders to users when books are due.
We find that users depend on these and occasionally ask for fines to be
waived if for some reason they did not receive a reminder.
I was just wondering how other libraries respond to these user requests in
the same situation?
Best wishes,
Stephanie
