Cardiff University and JISC are pleased to announce that an initial release (v0.1) of the Raptor software is now available for early adopter use.
Raptor is a free to use, open source software suite generally designed to enable accounting within event-based systems, and specifically aimed at accounting within systems that handle authentication events such as the Shibboleth IdP, OpenAthens LA, and EZproxy. It has a simple-to-use web interface aimed at non-technical administrative stff to be able to understand resource usage of their users.
The v0.1.0 release of Raptor means that we feel that the software is in a sufficiently advanced state for anybody to install and use, however, before we're ready to call it v1.0 we'd like some more widespread testing by the community; also there are a few more features we'd like to get in there (including making the install/configuration process even simpler). v1.0.0 of Raptor, which will be ready for more general use, is likely to be released around October of this year.
See Raptor's trac - http://iam.cf.ac.uk/Raptor - for an overview of Raptor, along with instructions on how to download, install, configure, and use Raptor. Note that this wiki is still a work in progress - if you find any blank pages, check back again soon and they should have some content!
Two mailing lists have been set up for Raptor announcements and for Raptor users - see https://iam.cf.ac.uk/trac/RAPTOR/wiki/Support/Lists for more information. If you do install and play around with Raptor, please let us know your thoughts and experiences of it on the raptor-users mailing list, and any bugs you encounter or extra features you'd like please report via the trac.
Note that this release is currently limited to linux servers only - Windows MSI installers will be available for v0.1 of Raptor within the next few weeks.
Kind Regards,
Rhys.
