South Asia Migration Research Network Short Course: Negombo Sri Lanka

The 4th Short Course organised by the South Asia Migration Research
Network will be held in Negombo, Sri Lanka, from September 19-25, 2011.
It will be hosted by the Social Policy Analysis and Research Centre
(SPARC) at the University of Colombo, in collaboration with the Refugee
and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) at the University of
Dhaka, Bangladesh, and the Sussex Centre for Migration Research (SCMR)
at the University of Sussex, UK.
The course is designed for PhD students and government employees working
in migration related fields. It will cover major aspects of theory,
policy and methodology of migration research in the South Asian region,
through guest lectures by visiting expert speakers, including those
involved in managing migration in Sri Lanka. Participants will also have
the opportunity to make short presentations of their own research. The
language of the course will be English.
SAMRen can offer 25 bursaries for participation on the course. These
bursaries will cover accommodation in a shared room, full board and all
course costs. They will also cover a contribution towards travel to Sri
Lanka. In common with previous SAMReN short courses, individuals will be
expected to contribute $100 to the cost of their travel; the remaining
cost, to a maximum of $350 will be covered. These places will be offered
in priority to individuals from the South Asia region. Individuals from
elsewhere will also be considered for the bursary and are also welcome
to apply to attend as paying participants, covering costs of $700/person
(not including transport). The closing date for applications is Monday
August 1st 2011. Successful participants will be informed within one week.
