If you use a voucher scheme provided by the major opticians the cost
isnt that much. Wearing galsses under goggles may lead to decreased
acuity , in a previous job of mine operatives visually checking castings
were not allowed to do this as part of a quality control measure ( as
well as H&S) Dare say spot on visual acuity quite important for surgeons
too.....

Hmmm, my understanding was that surgeons wear their prescription lenses
under the protective visor/goggles supplied in theatres? It is many
years since I last worked in theatres but surely the cost alone to
provide prescription lenses in all PPE for eyes would be prohibitive???
Happy to have my possibly outdated presumptions updated if this is no
longer the case though!
Kind regards,
Rita

Subject: Prescription eye protection for surgeons
Please can anyone enlighten me...
A surgeon called me to ask about provision of prescription eye
protection. I've spoken to our H&S officer who said to ask the theatre
manager whether a risk assessment has been undertaken and whether this
has been taken into account.
Has anyone got any idea as to what surgeons who wear prescription
glasses have to be provided with...? What does everyone else do...?
S :-)
