The evidence comes from the vaccine manufacturers not the green book in that the development of antibodies greater than 10 miu/ml - the level at which you are considered immune - usually occurrs within 10 days ( i think) in 97% of all vaccinated subjects (depending on what vaccine you use).
the second and third doses are for longevity.
You cannot assure who will and will not obtain immunity.
In the event of a needlestick in a person on a course of vaccine you give a dose of vaccine not HBIG
In the case of a non-immune person after 5 doses you still wouldn't exclude from work so why would you stop someone from working in the first place. Standard infectin control practices and good sharps management behaviour should protect most people from most things and not rely on Hep B vax.
Hope that helps

Hello All
I am looking for specific reference to when an employee can commence work in a health care setting ( i.e with potential for exposure) after having hep B vaccinations.
My understanding is after one vaccination ( of the three/four)they can work in the care setting environment ,but despite searching I can not find this reference, I have read and re-read the green book to no avail, I did manage to get some American documentations but I need it to apply to the UK
Thank you in anticipation.
Pauline
