Applications are invited for a three-year Welsh-Medium PhD studentship in Media Production in the School of Creative Studies and Media at Bangor University. The studentship can be undertaken in any area of media production, including film and documentary making, TV and radio production, and digital/interactive media. Fluent written and spoken Welsh are essential.
The studentship is available from 1st September 2011, and includes payment of UK/EU level tuition fees, plus a maintenance allowance of £10,000 per year. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake technical support activities for the School as part of the studentship, so an ability to support IT equipment and audio visual equipment such as digital video cameras, audio recording equipment and lighting equipment is essential.
The School of Creative Studies and Media at Bangor engages in cross-disciplinary research and teaching across the creative media. It specialises in a number of key areas: media and digital communication; journalism; writing; film studies; theatre and performance; creative practice. Current staff in the School have a range of research and teaching interests, including visual culture, gaming and virtual worlds, documentary and film making, live media events, theatre and performance, writing for digital media, screenwriting, film, and interactive media. The School has a thriving doctoral community researching across the range of disciplines it offers, and runs a regular research seminar series for its postgraduate population and for staff.
Applicants with a strong background in media practice are welcome to apply, and should have a first or upper second-class honours degree in journalism, media, communications or a related subject. We would normally expect applicants to have successfully completed a Masters degree or have equivalent industry experience.

MeCCSA is the subject association for the field of media, communication and cultural studies in UK Higher Education. Membership is open to all who teach and research these subjects in HE institutions, via either institutional or individual membership. The field includes film and TV production, journalism, radio, photography, creative writing, publishing, interactive media and the web; and it includes higher education for media practice as well as for media studies.
