Dear All
Thank you all for your comments relating to my recent query about Referencing within your trust. As promised here is a summary of the findings.
From a total of 11 responses (including my own trust): -
* A majority of respondents suggested they did not have a trust wide policy, but acknowledged that there are different referencing requirements for a variety of parties - Universities, trusts, publishers, journals etc.
* Three of the respondents stated that they had a trust wide policy for referencing style for trust policies and reports. One trust opting to use Harvard, one Vancouver and the third offering either Vancouver or Harvard.
* RefWorks seems to be the reference management system of choice, with three responses.
* NHS Scotland has a national licence for RefWorks via Athens, so all trusts have access to the product.
* Mendeley and Citeulike were suggested as ideas for free WEB based referencing tools.
* One response noted problems with using electronic reference managers and the NHS firewalls and security.
* TextHelp (a piece of software for supporting literacy development) offers the facility to develop a bibliography.
Only a few responses, but really useful comments that support my own thoughts.
As we have just purchased TextHelp, I am going to test if this would work as a referencing management system we can use.
Further, with support from the Library Services Manager I am going to investigate via various meetings/committees if we can establish a trust wide policy given the competences in the RCN documentation.
I'll keep you informed of any developments.
Pam
