Hi there,
I was wondering if colleagues might point me in the direction of both advice for creating our own digital video library
(i.e. a library of digitised off-air recordings that can be streamed to users) and possibly examples of those that
currently exist. Or if you are the creator of such a library perhaps you could share some of your experience in creating it.
Here are some of the questions that I have currently (though I am not expecting everyone to answer everything).
Do we do it in-house or out-source it (if we are talking about 1500 videos)?
What are the (“good”) companies that do this sort of project?
How easy is it to digitise a video where there may be several programmes on it that we would now want separately?
Where are these digital files traditionally stored – e.g. in house server?
What interfaces are used to enable users to search the library and view the content?
Is the regular catalogue used? (And if so how is secure access to the digital files managed)?
As you can probably tell I am at the very early stage of thinking about this as a project, and while my questions
may betray a certain naivety about the process, I do assure you I can learn quite quickly :-)
