Happold Consulting is a leading strategic and management consultancy in the built environment. We work with public and private sector clients to develop integrated solutions to complex problems, bringing together the traditional skills of a management consultancy with those of an engineering, planning and design consultancy.
Our projects are challenging and involve elements of planning, economics, environment, sustainability, asset strategy, real estate, transport and utilities. They range in scale from local developments to regional strategies. The ability to manage, analyse and present geographic information in a clear and concise manner is therefore vital to our success.
The GIS Manager will provide leadership for how spatial information is used throughout the company. They will need to be able to balance demanding day-to-day project requirements with resourcing and budget responsibilities, whilst also providing inputs to bids, submissions and marketing material.
A new area of focus is ‘city systems’, with web-based GIS components often forming a key component. The GIS Manager will be expected to play a key role in this work stream and help to develop it into a self-sustaining discipline. There are also opportunities to develop GIS products and services through model development, software customisation, training and capacity building. The successful candidate will need to provide evidence of developing commercial opportunities and show a good understanding of the latest developments in GIS technology.
This is a senior role and only candidates with a proven track record in leading a GIS team will be considered. The ideal candidate will combine this with significant experience in a client-facing role, experience implementing web-based GIS applications and work in the built environment.
In exchange, Happold Consulting offer a competitive salary and the opportunity to work in a dynamic and exciting company, who recognise the value of spatial information and position GIS as a key component in their ambitious growth plans.
Responsibilities:
• Key contact for data collection, management, analysis, modelling, cartography and web-based GIS tools across the company.
• Manage a small but growing team of GIS Analysts.
• Provide technical, resourcing and financial input to bids and submissions.
• Produce marketing material and actively seek commercial opportunities.
• Lead the ‘city systems’ development work stream, focusing on GIS applications (programming skills an advantage but not a requirement).
Requirements:
• Undergraduate or postgraduate degree with significant GIS components, plus at least 5 years professional experience.
• Proficient with ArcGIS version 9 or later.
• Proven experience leading the technical, marketing, organisational and strategic development of a GIS team.
• Built environment experience.
• Project management experience.
• A good command of English is essential.
Preferences:
• Postgraduate degree in GIS or a related discipline.
• Experience in an engineering, planning or design consultancy.
• Full-lifecycle software development experience.
• Proven track record of identifying opportunities and work winning.
• Arabic language skills would be an advantage.
Employment would be on a full time permanent staff basis in the London office but will require some international travel.
