this is surprising indeed. If anything, the protocol we've used should increase the sensitivity to detect differences... Are your results obtained with the classic cross-sectional protocol (Giorgio's paper) seem to fit with your hypothesis?
Also, what is the exact protocol you've used? Here is the break-down of the steps we've taken:
