AHRC Project Studentship: ‘Locating the Hidden Diaspora: The English in North America in Transatlantic Perspective, 1760-1950’
Applications are invited for a three year full-time studentship funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council led by Professor Don MacRaild.
This project seeks to uncover and examine the hidden English Diaspora in North America between 1760 and 1950. Though the English were the largest group of emigrants in the British World and one of the largest European groups in the US, they are not ascribed the attributes of ethnicity associated with other immigrant groups. The doctoral project, which forms a critical focus for this project, will explore St George's culture in the British Isles, in its emergent phase, 1890-1950, interpreting the development of English associations in Britain and Ireland and interrogating the relationship between homeland and diaspora.
Applicants are welcome to contact Professor Don MacRaild, [log in to unmask] for further information about the project.
