Statistical Analysis and Data Mining
Special Issue on Astrostatistics
We would like to invite you to submit a paper for a special issue of Statistical Analysis and Data Mining (SAM) that will be devoted to "Astrostatistics". The goals of this interdisciplinary journal, published on behalf of the American Statistical Association, are to encourage collaborations across disciplines and promote the communication of novel data mining and statistical techniques to both novices and experts involved in the analysis of data.
We are looking for original papers or review articles addressing an astronomical/cosmological/astrophysical issue with (advanced) statistical methods, highlighting methodological challenges and recent approaches. Papers that present statistical techniques of relevance for astronomy/cosmology/astrophysics are also welcome. Papers should be accessible to non-experts in the field.
We especially welcome papers that address the following methodological issues:
- High-dimensional data sets
- Massive data sets
- Outlier detection
- Data mining
- Bayesian methods
- Model selection and model averaging
- Performance forecast and optimization
- Sparsity
Deadline for papers submission is August 31st 2011.
Manuscripts must be submitted electronically using Manuscript Central's web-based submission and review website for SAM: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/sam
During the submission process, you will be asked if the paper is targeted for a Special Issue. Please indicate "Astrostatistics." Should you require any further
information or if you would like to discuss possible topics with us, you may contact us via e-mail at
