THE INSTITUTE OF CANCER RESEARCH
(University of London)
Sutton, Surrey
DIVISION OF GENETICS and EPIDEMIOLOGY
Statistician-Bioinformatician/Senior Statistician-Bioinformatician
The Molecular and Population Genetics Team is a dynamic and
collaborative group at the Institute of Cancer Research, one of the
world’s foremost independent cancer research organisations. Our work
focuses on the identification and characterisation of inherited sequence
changes which influence the risk of cancer.
We are currently undergoing an exciting transition from analysis of
classic genome-wide association studies into large-scale next generation
sequencing projects. We are seeking an enthusiastic, self motivated
individual to conduct statistical/bioinformatics research within the
scope of the group’s ongoing projects. This will involve developing
tools and frameworks to tackle new computational and statistical
challenges arising from next generation sequencing, and analysis of
existing datasets, often innovating new methods to further explore the
data beyond what classical protocols allow.
The successful applicant should have a PhD degree in a numerical
subject. As the group’s interests are diverse the role is flexible and
is adjustable to suit someone from either a statistical or computational
background. The post-holder will work closely with bioinformaticians,
statisticians and molecular biologists within the team as well as
conducting independent research.
Appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract for 3 years in the first
instance, with a starting salary in the range of £30,859 to £37,476
inclusive, based on previous experience. For the senior post the salary
scale will be from £37,241 to £44,336 p.a. inclusive, based on previous
experience.
