Professorship "Communication and Media Studies with a Focus on Media Change“
at the University of Bremen, Germany
The Faculty of Cultural Studies invites applications (subject to the release of the funds) for a Professorship – pay group W2 (permanent appointment for life) – for the field of Communication and Media Studies with a special emphasis on Media Change (Code P 889/11).
The candidates should have proof of their academic expertise in empirical research on current media change, and in qualitative and / or quantitative methods of empirical research of media culture. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in the main research area of media change in the Faculty of Cultural Studies, fundraising for research projects, and exhibit a readiness for interdisciplinary research collaboration within the Centre for Media, Communication and Information Sciences (ZeMKI) are expected.
The successful candidate should be available for teaching programs of the Institute of Media History, Media and Communication Studies (IPKM) and be able to offer, along with thematic teaching, relevant courses on methodology in communication and media studies. A willingness to participate in the extension of the doctoral program is required. The person should be able to teach in German.
This professorship is awarded under the Grete Henry program of the University of Bremen to promote gender equality in academia. This program is intended to increase the proportion of women in leadership positions.
In addition to the requirements of civil-service law, a relevant doctorate as well as other relevant academic achievements of outstanding quality are expected that could be achieved by a junior professorship or by a Habilitation/ post-doctoral thesis. A further requirement is pedagogical-didactical suitability, in particular in respect of ability to introduce students to critical and practical aspects of research on media culture. Teaching experience must be documented.
