Crossing boundaries: translation, betrayal, and literary seduction from
Boccaccio to Tasso.
This panel proposes to analyze the multiple aspects of the dialogue between
Vernacular and Latin cultures by focusing on the influence of Petrarch and
Boccaccio's works in literary and philosophical centers from the 14th to
the 16th centuries.
We solicit papers on: literary translations from Latin and other languages
into Vernacular or viceversa; philosophical and philological dialogues
between Petrarch and Boccaccio and among the intellectual circles they
influenced; how Boccaccio’s works were used and interpreted from Boccaccio
to Tasso; the investigation of disciplines such as law, natural philosophy,
medicine, music, visual arts in Boccaccio’s works.
Please submit a 150-word abstract and a bio-bibliographical blurb by June
5, 2011

Participants will be notified by June 15, 2010. The panel will be submitted
to the Renaissance Society of America by June 15 and reviewed for inclusion
on the final program. Should the panel be accepted, all participants must
either be members of the RSA and of ABA by August 2010.
