Dear all,
in January I spoke with Francis Alexander, the creative director of Chelsea
Theatre, about organising a panel discussion on walking as an art practice,
as part of Kensington and Chelsea's InTransit festival, for which they have
commissioned a series of walks.
Following our Plymouth discussions and the consensus that we should work on
the basis of events that have walking at their core (rather than arranging
things at which people sit and listen to talking about walking) I've been
talking to Francis about how we could change the shape/form from a panel
discussion to something more open and ambulatory.
Firstly I'd like to ask if this is something that the walking artists network
would like to do/be involved in/have its name associated with?
and if yes, do you have suggestions/ideas/proposals for what it could/should
be and how it might work?
The details as they currently stand are:
The event will be held on Saturday 30th July 2011, 10am - 6pm ish, at Chelsea
Theatre (http://www.chelseatheatre.org.uk/)
There will be 3 or 4 ticketed walks (which have already been commissioned)
throughout the day, leaving from the theatre.
Francis has offered us the use of the main auditorium as a base, it is a
black box approx. 8m x 9m with 7 rows of tiered seating, with tech. support,
for the day. There is a cafe/bar open all day too, and the theatre opens onto
a large public square with a pub on one corner.

It would be a free event, with registration required, that fits around the
ticketed walks.
It would be promoted as part of the InTransit festival
http://www.rbkc.gov.uk/leisureandlibraries/cultureservice/intransit.aspx and
in the Chelsea Theatre brochure.
There isn't any money available to facilitate beyond the stuff listed above,
though there's a chance of a couple of hundred quid to put towards travel
expenses (waiting to hear on this).
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
