We had an excellent and busy meeting at British Dental Association HQ on Tuesday. All presentations are now available via links from our UkeiG Website Intranets Forum members only area http://www.ukeig.org.uk/members-area/intranets-forum
Feedback from attendees would be very welcome on this list – what did you like, like less, would you like to volunteer, etc.?
18 attended.
PRESENTATIONS AND DISCUSSIONS
Elaine Francis (Sawyer Vincent) and Louisa Beeby (Universities UK) presented pages from their intranets and talked about what they were proudest of and what they had most problems with.
These were followed by spontaneous discussions in which just about everyone took part and which left 45 minutes for breakout sessions to discuss three topics nominated by attendees: how to change culture/manage change, the use of metadata, and how to get people to update content.
PRACTICAL HINTS AND TIPS
We trialled a 15 minute slot for presenting hints and tips for developing intranets, initiated by a presentation by Adam Pope of some quick tweaks for improving navigation and presentation. Adam has also contributed the first of templates/forms that can be used to make his hints work, and I will be loading it at the weekend. This is a slot for all members to contribute, so if you have a tweak you’re proud of let us have it, or if you have a problem with one you want to discuss, use the list here or the next meeting of the Forum.
DISCUSSION ROOM MEETING 16:30 ON 7 APRIL
There was some interest at the meeting in having more virtual meetings in the JISCmail Discussion Room at https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A0=UKEIG-INTRANETS-FORUM , so I am happy to be there on Thursday 7th at 16:30 for half an hour. If the time suits you, come and join in. If it doesn’t let me know when does and I’ll be happy to try and arrange one more conveniently! More about next Thursday’s at the weekend.
We finished at 5:15 and many were continuing the discussions as we walked down to the BDA foyer. Thanks again to Roger Farbey and The British Dental Association for the use of the room and the first class facilities!
