To get 10MB/s you need 20 have 3.5MB for a tcp window, now of you wanted double that plus copy with peaks during a transfer then perhaps the window size needs to be 10MB??? Advice is not to go over 12...

What affect, if any, will this have on checksums? AIUI, gridftp will
correctly checksum a file only if it is transferred in one stream.
I'm slightly nervous that this will be used to "fix" network problems at
sites without really addressing them - but other than that it seems like
a good idea.
