Dear all,
It seems that unless you have large pots of money to spend there are very limited opportunities for training in Records/Information Management (with the exception of IRMS). As a Records Manager one of my main objectives is to raise awareness and develop and deliver a programme of RM training to around 600 staff. I have found that there are very little resources available to support this, particularly with limited or no budgets. I would be pleased to see more awareness raising publications, particularly those that are free and readily available. It would also be useful to share ideas around internal training of staff and share activities that have been used in training that have made it more interesting and enjoyable. It would also be useful to know what experts from different organisations would be willing to give up some of their time to give talks on varying IM subjects.
Just a few thoughts

Subject: IRMS Training Programme 2011
Dear All,
As the new IRMS Training and Development Director, I would like to start a
discussion on this list regarding the perceived training needs for IRMS members
during 2011. I am particularly interested in finding out your views on the
following matters:
Q1: Is there still a need for traditional face-to-face records management
courses (as the IRMS have historically provided) or if alternative means of
delivery (e.g. e-learning and mobile learning) should be considered?.
Q2: Should the balance of content be shifted from traditional content to more
topical material.
Q3: The IRMS is currently planning to introduce a series of management
development courses -
a) for archivists (and other information professionals) opting for a new career
in records management
b) for public sector records managers considering a move to the private sector,
and
c) for records managers wishing to move into the Knowledge and Information
Management (KIM) arena
What are you views on the above?
Q4: What other training materials would you like to see available from the IRMS?
(e.g. general records management awareness training materials for use across
your organisation. Posters/Pamphlets/Guidelines etc)
Your views on any one or more of the above topic would be really helpful in
finalising our training and development programme.
Best wishes,
Paul
