Hi Everyone,
It's now just a week until the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s space flight on Tuesday 12th April.
Anyone near London who fancies an early start is invited to join the Yuri Walk along the South Bank, starting at Waterloo Bridge at 7am sharp on 12th April. Wear Yuri-style orange boiler suits, or just something orange. If you'd like to join us, e-mail [log in to unmask]
At 12 noon, everyone is encouraged to participate in a mass rocket launch (see: http://yurigagarin50.org/events/rockets4yuri )
The BBC will be screening the ‘First Orbit’ movie on its city centre “Big Screens” across the UK. Assistance in publicising and supporting the showings of the film would be appreciated.
‘First Orbit’ (http://www.firstorbit.org/) is a feature length film by Chris Riley that weaves historic audio recordings of the first Cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, with new footage of his orbital route.
The film will be shown at 07.07 BST, the exact time of Gagarin’s launch in 1961, and again at 12:30 on the Big Screens in Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cardiff, Derby, Dover, Edinburgh, Leeds, Leicester, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Swansea, Swindon and Walthamstow.
If you’d like more details about the showings of First Orbit, please contact Jo Willis ([log in to unmask]). To find out more about the film and arrange interviews with Chris Riley, please contact Rufus Stone ([log in to unmask]).
From today, a limited run of Vix Southgate's new book 'Yuri Gagarin - the First Spaceman', produced in association with the British Council, is available from http://www.vixsouthgate.co.uk/books.html
There are all sorts of other events going on round the country. For details, see http://yurigagarin50.org/events/calendar .
I hope it's going to be a really successful celebration.
Thanks,
Anita Heward
