Without the great typo "suck riders" which still exists within the Huffington Post web site, I wouldn't have posted my snap. In fact, my contextualization of that typo pales in comparison to its imagined visualization (in caps) on the license plates of deserving politicians. When I first read it, I immediately thought of Jerry Seinfeld's stunning recent stand-up comedy routine in which he argues that the terms of evaluative criticism have shrunk to the dichotomy, "It's great"<>"It sucks". If the US government does shut down, I look forward to witnessing quite a number of political performances guaranteed to suck.
Here's the original news, just copied:
4/06/2011 4:32 PM HuffPost's Ryan Grim reports:
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), a figure who commands deep respect among the most conservative Republicans, urged his House colleagues on Wednesday to drop their insistence on budget “riders” that block funding for everything from the EPA to Planned Parenthood.
Coburn, speaking to Dylan Ratigan on MSNBC, said one reason to push for suck riders is to “create a political climate” that might lead to implementation. But, he added, doing so now is unrealistic.
“The common sense way is: What can I really get done?" he said. "What’s the realities of the situation? And my recommendation to my friends in the House is, you know, it’s highly unlikely many riders are gonna get passed with a Democrat president and a Democrat Senate. So why don’t you take the spending [cuts] and let’s get on to the [2012] budget?”
