Lincoln University, located just outside Christchurch, recently sponsored a
one day conference on Resilient Futures: Supporting Recovery in Greater
Christchurch.
The presentations and conclusions of the conference can be found at

es-and-event-management/Professional-Development-Group/Resilient-Futures/Res
ilient-futures-conference-recordings/.
These presentations and discussions covered a range of topics and concerns,
but focused on how to the recovery process can make for a better
Christchurch and surrounding region.
(Christchurch, and Lincoln, were affected by two earthquakes, one on 4
September '10 and the other on 22 February '11. The latter was more
destructive, with the loss of at least 186 lives, and considerable damage to
New Zealand's second largest city, including a closing of the CBD and
considerable liquefaction in the eastern neighborhoods. As the second
earthquake largely impacted an urban area, the recovery of Christchurch
presents an example of urban disaster recovery, and provides a counterpart
to the on-going recovery in Port au Prince and Concepcion, Chile.)
