What are we looking for?
A GIS Specialist who has strong technical expertise and a sound understanding of database management, programming and development skills. You will have the drive to excel in your chosen career and enjoy this challenge and the satisfaction that accompanies success. The role will be to assist the existing GIS resources with an expanding workload and to offer complementary and new skills to growing this area of work in Arup’s West Region including offices in Cardiff, Bristol and Belfast. This position would suit either a recent GIS graduate or someone who has learnt GIS to a high standard through work experience.

The position is likely to be based in Cardiff but it is expected that the successful candidate will be willing to travel to other offices and maybe work there for short periods.

Technical qualifications
You will have a strong academic background. A first degree in a relevant subject is required (at least 2nd class) and maybe a higher degree as well. You should have proven academic experience of GIS; your interest and enthusiasm in GIS will be as important as the extent of your experience.
You should have knowledge and understanding of the use of GIS applications, preferably including MapInfo or ArcGIS. We are particularly keen to meet people with programming and development skills who have an understanding and aptitude for using of one or more of the following: ArcObjects, Visual Basic, SQL, .NET, XML, Python, 3D GIS. Key to this role will be the use of this knowledge to integrate systems and build software customisations to make geographical information and analysis more easily accessible. Experience of web based technologies and solutions is desirable although not essential.
